This scholarship fully funds one student (EU or non-EU) for DCU’s full-time MSc in Digital Marketing. Established in 2008, this scholarship honours John Thompson, a notable newspaper executive in Ireland. John, with nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, played a pivotal role in the inception and commercial advancement of several of Ireland’s most successful and lasting magazines, including U Magazine, The Sunday World, and The Irish Farmers Journal.
HE served as Chief Executive of Associated Newspapers Ireland, the publishers of the Irish Daily Mail and Irish Mail on Sunday, and previously held the position of Managing Director at Independent Star Limited, the publisher of the Irish Daily Star. John posited that journalism and marketing mutually enhance each other by stimulating consumer engagement, which in turn facilitates commercial success. This scholarship aims to establish connections between digital marketing and online journalism by encouraging graduates from business, journalism, and various educational disciplines to pursue studies in digital marketing while also developing an understanding of media and online journalism.
