All international freshmen and transfer students admitted to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities are eligible for the Global Excellence Scholarship (GES).

Awards are competitive and contingent upon academic merit. Students chosen for the GES honors are among the top of their high school cohort and demonstrate a history of exceptional academic readiness.

No distinct scholarship application exists; undergraduate applicants are automatically evaluated for the GES based on a comprehensive examination of their timely entrance application to the University of Minnesota. All prizes are conferred at the time of enrollment; thus, continuing students who were not initially granted awards are ineligible to apply.
